TM: Meme, you know me I always like to start off by seeing if anyone has a testimonial to share. Some of you may have shared your testimonial previously, don't hesitate to do it again there are always new people on the call who have not heard it. We'll start with 2 quick testimonials we probably wont have time for testimonials at the end we have a lot of material to cover tonight. Don't be shy remember you get free product when you share. Now who'll be first?
TESTIMONIALS
MG: Thanks for sharing. Now for that information on Probiotics.
TM: Im happy to say that Probiotics (often called the good bacteria) is moving to the mainstream according to Brandweek magazine, a popular industry food and beverage publication, in their recent June 11th, 2007 online report in an article entitled How Bacteria Is Helping Growth In Food Areas. Weve tried to impress upon you, in the past, the significance of Probiotics to your health and well being.* Perhaps Brandweek magazines report that there has been a huge growth spurt in foods containing probitioics will turn you on to the health and sales opportunities of this amazing product!
MG: Perhaps Brandweek said it best when they said: Step aside, antioxidants; the biggest buzz in food marketing today is probiotics. They are saying that Probiotics are bigger than antioxidants, the long time reigning king of nutrients, thats saying lot.
TM: It sure is Meme. We know that foods like yogurt containing probiotics have been popular in Europe and Japan for sometime, but only recently have become popular in the U.S.
MG: Its about time considering that numerous medical studies have now confirmed the benefits of probiotics, making it all the rage for health-conscious eaters, according to Brandweek.
TM: Yes, and I understand that the magazine reported that there had been favorable media coverage about the benefits, in The Wall Street Journal and on Oprah. These have helped fuel public interest.
MG:Yes, it has. I understand that the big food companies are rolling out probiotic food lines.
TM: Some on this call may be wondering just what are probiotics, and why are Americans rushing to add them to their diets? Probiotics are friendly bacteria that live in your small and large intestines mouth, stomach and colon. These good bacteria serve a number of purposes including helping you digest and absorb your food, generate nutrients, and, most importantly, keep your immune system functioning by acting as the first line of defense against the bad bacteria like E. coli.*
MG: Dont we all have these good bacteria in our system naturally?
TM: We all have some; but many people are deficient in them. This happens because the overuse of antibiotics, kills both good and bad bacteria. Once the bad bacteria outnumber the good, any number of troubles can occur including nausea, indigestion, diarrhea, bloating, fatigue, constipation, candida, and fungus.*
MG: I understand that some health experts believe that an overgrowth of bad bacteria can help propagate cancer and inflammation within your body increasing your risk of heart attacks.*
TM: Even if that werent the case for adding Probiotics to your diet just for a healthier digestive system makes sense.* It has long been accepted that adding live Probiotics to ordinary foods such as yogurt or in supplement form helps restore balance and harmony to your digestive system.* Indeed many health experts suggest that yogurt is not enough, and that many people need to add probiotic supplements.*
MG: Weve shared the significance of getting Probiotic supplementation before but not since Probiotics have become all the rage. Tommy, can we revisit a previous Health Show?
TM: Sure we can, Meme. Tonight, I want to revisit some important information from the September 2005 Health Show (a post convention interview with Dr. DicQie Fuller-Looney) about probiotics in general and Vitamark's probiotic formulation specifically. The March 2006 Health Show also deals with Probiotics. Vitamark's Probiotic formulation is a carefully mixed selection of microorganisms that are friendly to the human GI tract(often called the "friendly bacteria).* The organisms in this product will help stabilize and maintain a healthy intestinal probiotic ecosystem* .**
**Salminen, S. & Salminen, E. "Lactulose, lactic acid bacteria, intestinal microecology and mucosal protection" Scand J Gastroenterol Suppl 1997; 222: 45-8.
MG: As, I recall Dr. Fuller shared the general benefits of probiotics to our health?
TM: Yes, she did, and I would like to repeat some of them now. The common benefits of friendly bacteria include: Digestion of some of the food and enhanced absorption of nutrients.* Conversion of some food macromolecules for energy and other metabolic needs.* Control of colonic pH to prevent pathogenic bacterial growth.* Conversion of intestinal nitrogen into microbial protein, which could ultimately supply needed amino acids to the host.* Synthesis of various other beneficial enzymes in the GI tract.* Synthesis of various vitamins.* Synthesis of bacteriosins to control proliferation of competing bad bacteria.* May assist with the diarrhea episodes that result from various bacteria or viruses.* May assist with gastroenteritis and other GI tract inflammations and complications.* Softens stool*
MG: Boy that is a lot! Can you tell us which particular ingredient does what?
TM: My pleasure:
TM: For instance, L. plantarum is actually used to improve the microbial safety of foods.* L. plantarum has also been found to prevent the movement of bacteria from the gut to other organs (e.g., liver, lymph nodes) in animal models.* ***

TM: B. longum ....stimulates the immune system by enhancing the activity of natural killer cells in the spleen of rats.* [c] and by stimulating intestinal IgA production.* [d]

TM: To round out the formula: L. casei's beneficial bacteria promote the immunological barrier of the gut by the intestinal secretion of IgA.*
L. sporogenes is a very resilient organism. It can sustain various health conditions of the GI tract...*
L. salivarius is a very resilient and highly prolific bacteria.* Its actions reduce the production of toxic amines......*
MG: Tommy, I understand that in Dr. Mercola's Aug 31st, 2006, eHealthy News, he reported on new research that says "The bacteria(they are talking about the bad bacteria)in your gut might make you fat." He seems to be implying that if you had a balance of good bacteria to control the overgrowth of bad bacteria, you could overcome this reason for getting fat!*
TM: He sure did Meme and he went imply in his "Comments" that probiotics impact several causes of poor health not just being overweight, when he said: "The nutritional root of many ...diseases are related to an optimized balance of intestinal bacteria....one of the first suggestions I make to my patients.....is to take a...probiotic that promotes good bacteria."*
MG: I understand that Vitamark's probiotic product is enhanced with two very important ingredients that are not probiotics.
TM: It sure is! Vitamark's Probiotic also contains lactoferrin, which is currently the object of considerable study. Lactoferrin has been shown to be an effective antibacterial agent, which specifically targets the bad bacteria.* [e], [f]

[f] Teraguchi, S. et al. "Orally administered bovine lactoferrin inhibits bacterial translocation in mice fed bovine milk" Appl Environ Microbiol 1995; 61: 4131-4.
TM: Finally, I would like to focus on a very important and often neglected ingredient, the Jerusalem Artichoke, which is rich in inulin - a polymer of fructose also called fructooligosaccharides (FOS). It has been shown how FOS can serve as a source of effective nutrients for intestinal probiotic bacteria.*
This activity is sometimes called "prebiotic" because normal human digestive enzymes are unable to digest FOS, and so it therefore passes in its whole state into the colon, where it becomes available as a nutrient to "friendly" bacteria.* [g]. This allows the good bacteria to proliferate (continue to grow).*
[g] Roberfroid, M.B. "Health benefits of non-digestible oligosaccharides" Adv Exp Med Biol 1997.
MG: Pretty amazing product. It was also featured in the March Health Show as part of a 5 part system to address Candida Albicans( also known as yeast infections)--this is no light weight when it comes to maintaining your health.*
TM: You are right, Meme; and a recent survey commissioned by a Dutch nutritional company (reported in NutraIngredients USA,8/8/06, nutraingredients.com, in an article entitled "U.S.Consumers Still Don't Understand Probiotics, According to DSM") shows that, as significant a health product as probiotics are, many Americans aren't sure how or where to get this friendly bacteria that promotes gastrointestinal health.* What does this mean: It means that millions of U.S. consumers don't realize that certain foods and products can contain and nurture probiotics, the friendly bacteria, that is so useful in helping the body by assisting digestion, supporting immune function, assisting detoxification and overcoming harmful bacteria.* According to the June 11th,2007 Brandweek we have reason to share with everyone that we have a Probiotic product, they have become aware that they exist and are good for them.*
MG: Is there anything else we should know about this important nutritional product?
TM: There are two important things that everyone should remember about probiotics and one thing that people with serious bowel concerns should remember:
First: You need probiotics when you take antibiotics because the balance between friendly bacteria and bad bacteria in your digestive tract can be easily disturbed by antibiotic use.* In fact, some antibiotic drugs can kill the friendly bacteria because of its inability to distinguish between good and bad bacteria.* When the balance is tipped to the bad bacteria, poor health and gastrointestinal concerns often occur.*
MG: Is there anything else that upsets the delicate balance between good and bad bacteria?
TM: There are, Meme. Things like trauma, stress, surgery, parasitic infestation and poor nutrition.* Additionally steroids, chemotherapy and birth control pills can upset this balance.*
MG: You mentioned 2, actually 3 things to remember about probiotics.....
TM: I certainly did and the Second thing is: Where to get probiotics. There are food sources like cultured yogurt and kefir(be sure to read the nutrition panel to be sure it contains actual live friendly bacteria/cultures). Most food sources don't contain enough good bacteria to reestablish the balance. This usually calls for a probiotic nutritional supplement like Vitamark's Probiotic.*
MG: And the third thing to remember according to Health Science Institute panelist Dr. Spreen who recommends probiotics for serious bowel concerns:"I absolutely would be giving probiotics for such a problem, along with any agents that might assist strengthening the intestinal wall, such as FOS (fructo-oligo-saccharides), which helps the 'good' bugs to reestablish, also, aloe juice, which has a long history of calming bowel concerns, also, essential fatty acids, and digestive enzymes (which are usually under produced in such situations).*
TM: I might mention, Meme, that you can find all of the "assisting agents" in the Vitamark product line.
MG: Vitamark to the rescue again. Now it hardly seems likely that this super nutrient could do any more; but, it does. Tommy, could you tell us how probiotics impacts the H. pylori bacterium and why we should be concerned.*
TM: Be happy to, Meme. As far a cause for concern: it is projected that as much as 70 percent of the population may be infected with the H. pylori bacterium (a bacterium credited with creating peptic ulcers by weakening the protective coating of the stomach). With that high of a probability, it only seems right to address something like, probiotics, which may have an impact on H. pylori bacterium!*.
MG: Does everyone who is infected with the bacterium get an ulcer.
TM: No, statistically speaking only about one in ten infected people will develop an ulcer.
MG: That's good for the 9; but not so good for the 1! Does this bacterium affect any other area of our health.
TM: It surely does. It has been shown that H. pylori may also play a role in the development of heart concerns, autoimmune issues, skin concerns and several types of cancer.*I want to focus on new research that indicates that by adding probiotics to your shopping list you may have even more control over H. pylori.* Like I said earlier, probiotics are the friendly bacteria that inhabit the digestive tract. They crowd out harmful bacteria, aid digestion and support immune function.* And, according to a 2002 study from Taiwan's National Cheng Kung university, probiotics might reduce the harsh side effects of antibiotics while also improving the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy.* The Taiwanese team from National Cheng Kung University confirmed their previous research in a new study and also puts forth probiotics as a safe and effective way to help treat stubborn H. pylori infections.*
MG: I understand that 140 people with active Peptic ulcers and the presence of H. pylori and who had undergone treatment with three combined antibiotics which were unsuccessful at reducing the H. pylori were recruited as test subjects.
TM: You are right. For follow-up, they assigned 1/2 the group to take a second round of antibiotics and 1 /2 the group to eat yogurt containing live probiotic cultures for 4 weeks. The results according to urea breath tests: those in the yogurt group eliminated H. pylori by more than 90 percent, while those in the group not treated with probiotic yogurt eliminated 77 percent of H. pylori.*
MG: Boy,that was some yogurt--will just any yogurt do??
TM: No, it won't Meme. The yogurt used in the Taiwan study contained two living probiotic cultures: Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. You may have to make a trip to the health food store to find yogurt brands that contain these cultures or just shop for Vitamark's Probiotic which contains both of these cultures and lactoferrin, a protein found in bovine colostrum, which according to a November 1999 Health Science Institute's Members Alert, "can kill H. pylori bacterium, and may also help protect you from becoming infected with H. pylori in the first place."* Studies show that lactoferrin binds iron in your blood, keeping it away from cancerous cells, bacteria, viruses and other pathogens that require iron to grow.* Research also suggests that the lactoferrin protein activates specific strands of DNA that turn on the genes that launch your immune response."* Vitamark's Probiotic provides a "sort of double whammy" with both of the probiotics and the lactoferrin.*
MG: Just more proof that Vitamark provides the most complete, efficacious products in the market place. Of course, Probiotic,is just one product in our arsenal of products from Dr. DicQie Fuller-Looney. We also have 2 incredible enzyme products, Revitalgen, a potent proteolytic enzyme, and Super Vi-Gest, a superb digestive enzyme.
MG: Thanks for this information tonight. I know that Probiotic is certainly going to be a part of my daily health regimen. Well it's time to say goodnight, Tommy.
TM: Weve had an extra long show tonight so we wont have time for testimonials. I hope all of you have gotten the message about how vital probiotics are to your health and if you havent gotten that message I hope you got the idea that probiotics can mean extra businessbig business as people are actively seeking it! Share the products!
TM: Good night everyone--Please remember that this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!
